Echo's Essence

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

Might life’s purpose be to live out one’s echo, assuming such vibrations are not relegated to the auditory sense alone?

Poem Artwork
Echo’s Essence
by Odin Roark

Listening to echoes
Beyond disappearance

Such might be Nature’s plan
For us
For all living entities

Why then
Does man have not the patience
For allowing the timbre of life’s experience
To find its own settlement
It’s own completion?

Might it be

We are fearful of the resultant quiet?

Every sound
Every action
Every word spoken
Enters the atmosphere
Seeking only to be absorbed
To be taken in
To be allowed its totality

Yet
We often fend off such insistence
Fearing end’s realization
Its cyclic reconnection to nothingness
Disturbing one’s sense of forward motion
Of advancing toward the goal
Of perceived purpose

Perhaps ignoring
Or
Obviating 1 + 1’s essence equals 1
Is but to hold
1+1=2

So goes separation
We
Them
Now
Later
This
That
Forever resisting existence
And its unbridled continuum

Even as we willingly start an echo
But await its final silence… unwillingly

We involuntarily experience

Some laugh
Others weep

Believe it or not, our thoughts are echoed in our children and their children. May this poem echo on down through the ages.

My thoughts on why we do not follow our echoes are the dangers (perceived) of ridicule and mockery from our fellow humans. I also believe there is a thin red line between echos and insanity. But those who do follow their echoes can attain greatness, there is no doubt, not necessarily greatness of fame, but a quiet greatness which comes from within.

If, as they say, the voice of the Universe is 80 octaves below our ability to hear then we have far to go before we laugh or weep. I really like that 'unbridled continuum' thought. Almost makes one believe in eternity. Many thanks. Jan

there are certain echoes we long to hear, perhaps an inner tune.
