Rooftop Dancers
by Odin Roark
Softly at first
Like feathered footsteps
A butterfly’s delicacy
Foreshadowing awareness
Shortly the tin roof
Becomes a prefaced chorus
Awaiting the entrance
Of spring’s deliverance
Lightning’s timpani discharges
The grand march begins
Motion sways
Penetrates
Punctuates
Like ice picks in a dervish burst
A sudden silence
Clouds move on
Thunderclaps recede
From roof to ground
Nature’s amulets sparkle and reflect sky and tree
Embracing passion’s diminuendo
A jungle becomes pastoral
Sunset’s closure brings remembrance
Joyful weeping is silent
As time prepares to sleep
Wonderful imagery.
