The essence of “being” is ignored by some, while for others, it remains all that matters. (Image by passernightblog)

Sunrise in the Dark
by Odin Roark
For certain readers,
listeners,
and the curious,
might it be
poets avoid the frequent mockery
that they do something
by honestly being something?
Is it not possible
dignity's survival depends
on being detached
from that which
wishes to attach?
Could such inner freedom
liquefy shackles of riches,
fame and expectation,
allowing rewards to reside
in the mere dance of words?
While others harness language
to serve, validate and temper their attachments,
might spirits generous remain uncontainable,
like water running beside rolling stones
and other obstacles impotent to imprisonment?
For some…
Aloneness protects true peace,
the calm voice whispering a language of warmth
from a forever candle,
a flame impervious to storms,
its seclusion its security.
Yet…
Humble we must remain,
as we are but stand-ins
for the all-present sunrise in the dark,
we poets,
the quiet purveyors of
obscurity's bliss.

'No one shall return from ignorance
Satisfied. For when righteous anger
Descends, darkness will fall upon a
Lost and gullible people blinded to
All but their bellies and idols.
On parade – indigent automatons
March to guttural rhythms as festering
Dissatisfaction gnaws holes into
The meat of mindsets prejudiced by
Years of non-acceptance and ridicule.'
Frequent misunderstanding and mockery is all part of this game. The world of writing houses all kinds. The aging infirmed arrogant condescending 'holier than thou' ones are the worst. Remember this: Your gift sparkles. You see and express how you've been wired. And no one else in the universe can lay claim to that. Here's a quote that I've always liked.
"If you dislike, or despise, or are critical of someone, you do so because there is something in them that is also in you. What isn’t a part of ourselves doesn’t disturb us."
