Given the increasing war mongering mindset of our species, apocalyptic imaginings are rapidly moving out of the realm of predictions, via the privy of supernatural belief, and into reality’s hazy sunrise of today...or tomorrow…or… (Image by David Weist)

Just A Matter Of time
by Odin Roark
Just a matter of time,
Say the residents of daring,
In the city people now only visit
Before the Big Apple is cored.
Just a matter of time
Before those surviving in one-room apartments,
Popping the fizzy in penthouse luxury
Or making do beneath newspaper blankets,
Eventually flee their respective zones,
Into captivity’s stealthily adorned common denominator:
Undulating heat from Nature’s changing climate
Made undeniable by the self-righteous fires of arrogance.
Just a matter of time
Before the staring at blank TV screens,
Kneeling before wall-hung symbols of faith,
Or the peering into empty tin cups,
Will catapult its panicking consciousness
Hurry-scurrying in all directions,
Filling the seductive streets of darkness
Where blindness suggests there is no wrong way.
Just a matter of time
When all will tire
From the desperate closing of weary eyes
Into another impotent slumber,
Where wide-eyed listening to falsehoods
Renders the mind exhausted.
Just a matter of time
Before a tropical downpour flooding the streets of December,
Even as yesterday’s icicles turns the color of molten fire,
And the horrific flames will be carried as CNN Breaking News,
A suicide bomber’s effort will explode past rooftops,
Sending ashen remnants of martyrdom’s messenger
Toward the virgin harem on the other side.
Just a matter of time
Before all that remains
Is the echo of a species’ combatant beliefs
Melting together as one,
The quintessential collective,
The final benediction.
Just a matter of time.
I may be in a minority of those who respond and it may be very true for cities like New York City, so tied to its infrastructure for support, as humanity is, as described by Richard below, but humanity is very adaptive. Within two short years, the United States built an Armed Forces bent for mostly total destruction (most of the war materials never survived the war, like many thousands of soldiers sent into the grind) from a totally depressed economy. In 10 short years, the United States went to the Moon faced with a challenge from the Soviet Union. My point is that humans are very adaptable and will change very rapidly when the handwriting is on the wall. It may be too late for many, but for most, survival will not be easy, but it will be possible through ingenuity and doing the right thing in response to every challenge.
But it is for the poet and philosopher to warn… and you have done that very well.

This is why those of a dogmatic religious nature tend to be so fanatical. In order to keep their faith they must intervene to insure a satisfactory outcome according to their specific beliefs. Most of the rest of us don't even want to consider the possibilities. Better to go with the flow even if it happens to be running downhill. M.True
