We Are All Creative

It’s good to keep reminding oneself of how limitless imagination is, and the lengths to which many realists will go to keep it imprisoned. (Image by Magnaldo)

Poem Artwork
We Are All Creative
by Odin Roark

From cloud-portrait skies
To ripple-reflective waters,
Abstract teddy bears and dragon tails
Swirl about originality’s need,
Joyfully making sense of literal absurdities.

How inflexible
The dictators of confinement,
Fearful of exploration’s uncovering,
Knowing beneath the obvious
May reside an essence
A note-worthy interpretation of yesterday’s foreshadowing,
An excavation of knowledge protectively preserved,
But always redeemable,
Knowledge well aware invention lives intimately
With the tenacity of trial and error.

Yet…

How rigid yesterdays continue,
Promoting languid senses to deliver only matter-of-fact,
While inner cravings long for the cake beneath the icing,
Glacial essence beneath crevasses of danger,
Erudition’s gleaned consequence of tearful epiphanies,
Wisdom’s forever peeling of the metaphoric onion.

Imagination beckons tomorrow’s child of wonder,
Young adults pondering confusion,
And liberated minds celebrating freedom.

Fulfillment’s infinite capacity to transport
Stands at the ready, extending a gentle hand
To enjoin its maxim of truth: We Are All Creative.

You have often returned to this theme, and it is very true. I have often said that my independence and sense of responsibility came early when my parents did not restrict me from chasing my dreams. I saw so many other parents controlling their children until they were dependent and unable to express themselves creatively and responsibly. Fortunately, a few of us, like you and I, escaped like The One That Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, to open up imagination and creativity once more.

I so needed to read this now, Odin. Thank you! We were created to create and unless we are able to in some shape or form, our spirit withers and dies. I'm not just talking 'art' here - ask any person who feels their life is without aim, purpose or employment. I'm feeling barren myself at the moment but know there must be more than the little I have already managed to achieve. There is always your 'Yet'... Bless you, Kate xx
