If black be the absorption of all colors, what a phantasmagoric continuum it has to reveal.

Poem Artwork
Rainbow-Shadows
by Odin Roark

Skyscraper city.

Tall.

Dense.

Waiting.

Each day…

Born of awakening shadows,
dawn’s expectation of blue,
merging purple of yesterday’s pain,
into noontime’s yellow and orange warmth.

Afternoon…

Brings diffused colors finding purchase
among buildings reaching over to parks,
extending across trees to apartment windows afar,
glass-reflected heat finds momentary respite,
while a shaded pigeon’s perch
invites winged friends to rest.

How giving
this kaleidoscopic palette of absorption,
stretching out its invisible canvas
nature’s collage of spectrum’s density,
decking the walls of avenues and streets
with obliging silhouettes,
offering cooled intervals for walkers, drivers,
park bench nappers.

Yet…

Tucked away in a city’s darkened alleys of despair,
many know but the abyss of shadows,
that place where only colorless fear resides.

in this piece of well balanced narrative (at last), indirectly, but I see the pallid tints and, what's more, their half-shades as the real side of reality, 'resides' within the narrow plantings between the well-attended alleys. . . however, the whole fear is actually on the shining side, disguised by the DG and Chanel goggles. . . still dazzled with endless desires and, therefore, tragedies. Cheers, alex

I learned the value of "compare and contrast" long ago. It got me through graduate school. Thanks for this stark reminder from the world of reality.

A powerfully sad ending, in the shadows.

An amazing journey through the world of shadows within the city landscape. Having lived in New York City myself, I have recognized some of the landmarks, including the abyss of shadows mentioned at the end. Again, some remarkable (unexpected) images to signpost the way. John
