Why does it seem conscience and aspirant truth is endangered? Perhaps it’s like junk food… hooked on habit and comfort, until we finally accept reality. (Image by medicalnewstoday)

Ingested Lies
by Odin Roark
Like a deceptively smooth giant gel capsule
wished small,
we swallow our remedies,
assuming no side effects.
Such elegance,
these illusive capsules,
served gently for wants,
made pleasant to the tongue,
seductive to the taste.
Initially downed easily,
chased with pure confidence, yet,
so often we swallow duplicity spoken
written,
acted,
so many absorbed unknowns,
until…
Oblivious of its poison,
we gladly await the next dose,
unaware an insidious curse
churns its brew
in shadowed concealment,
rotting the I of We,
even as we blithely gorge on ego comforts
masquerading as beliefs…
not yet vetted as truth.
Fortunately, the almost instant knowledge of the Internet, at least for some, is enlightening and is rapidly changing the average person's perception from that of his/her close personal surroundings to the entire world and what it offers by way of determining the truth.
In this political season, lies and half-truths, abound. One can easily check a damning email on the Internet and determine whether or not it is the truth or a carefully constructed lie.
For one, I welcome this coming-of-age, finally, in the 21st century.
