White Mud

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

White is the absence of color visually, but is all colors in the light spectrum. Black is all colors visually, and the absence of light on the spectrum. This poem explores metaphorically, as well as the actual impact color, or lack of, has on our perceptions. PS- Sara, if you're reading this, stop. Get back to work. You don't need another "distraction." (image by kauo shiraga)

Poem Artwork
White Mud
by Odin Roark

One’s conscience
knows little discretion
while escaping oppressive ideologies,
the flawed,
confused,
fear-driven,
spirit-driven,
and omnipresent blood-thirsty
visceral drives.

Some…

Awaken
as oozing-threat
creates awareness.

Others…

Like Wile E. Coyote,
need hardened concrete
rendered to the head,
even if only
to see cartoon birds
and scrambled musical notes.

A few…

Recognize air’s disturbance,
the moisture from incoming clouds of doubt.

Space threatened by
the gathering energy,
boding well for the seeing,
hearing,
feeling,
perceive beyond the obvious.

But for those avoiding expectation,
ebbs and tides of patience
emerge like the sea,
while the winged lion
roaring, swirling through life’s mist,
echoing its imagination,
enjoins the indubitable past,
shaping an omnipresent now.

Such are the celebrated futures
rising from fractal-history.

For the few…

Having finally persevered,
man’s sublimeness awakens,
forging the many shapes,
forms,
colors and words
surrounding destiny’s chance of a rainbow,
creativity embracing Yin and Yang,
space-time’s perpetual offering.

For others…

Compassion sadly accepts the out-patients of emptiness,
those who deny they make their own reality.

Left…

Are those hearts and minds absent color,
realizing not the scintillating,
effervescent,
tincture-rich life,
that is there
for creating,
even as tomorrow
will bring further ups and downs,
flows and drought.

For far too many…

The plight
of victimization
wallows in white mud.

white mud and rare white clay could be likened to the milk and butter's effect. . . the whole point is what sort of sense we put into our daily practice. Cheers, alex

John skirted around nicely. I'm going to dive right in…

Lately I've been trying to point out that we humans, regardless of our origins, tend to be drawn to the light and afraid of the dark. This overpowering primal inclination colors our thinking in a subliminal way when we view others. Somehow it translates to those of darker skin being considered lesser (even feared) than those of lighter skin (except for albinos who are either deified or expelled, depending upon cultural mores.

Your point I think, is that freeing darker people from oppression is stuck in the "white" mud of historical precedent. I think it's time we climbed out of the mud and cleaned up.

The title, the image is perfect for the idea presented and the sentiment expressed. John
