Perhaps the dreams of the elderly promote the kind of courage younger beings can’t possibly understand. For the aged know well the fear between a dream's end and the awakening into their often painful reality. (Image by behence)

One’s Invincible Light
by Odin Roark
As one faces old age…
Words without color
are words drawn from an empty well,
from fathoms of dusty knowledge that fade
as time encroaches time.
And sounds without song
are but shards of empty utterances
where once melody passed from quill to paper,
from page to book, from heart to soul,
but are now mere ellipses to nowhere.
One needs not the request you touch our hearts,
to envelope our beings with shadow's light
and create choruses of joy atop the palette of love.
You have forged the arc of our journey
wherein awaits the mystery
that patience bestows on time,
that willingness allows for hope,
and courage delivers compassion.
Be my unseen light.
dance with me in the whiteness of infinite rainbows,
even as answers linger in shadows.
With patience granting little…
Today we began a walk through new unknowns,
through questions without answers,
through memories not yet born,
through answers to be earned.
Tonight we will continue our walk through tomorrow,
where mind and spirit protect each other in anticipation's darkness,
where sleeping rainbows not yet seen prepare their palettes,
where the light quietly waits to dawn the unknown.
Tomorrow we will take a walk through tonight,
to remember the wind that carried the sweet fragrance of your smile,
the dance of translucent thought and feeling places upon our lips,
the sometimes unseen light that protected us from yesterday,
and will hearten our next tomorrow.
Since I have no grandchildren to pass the wisdom my dreams have given me, I write these stories from these dreams in hopes that my grand nieces and nephews will someday benefit from my experience in life.

Love ya!

How true, how true. Every day now seems to awaken as a quantity unknown. The longer we live, the less we seem to know. Who knows but we will finally arrive at the Great Unknowning, unravelling all we have known. Your poem is inspirational. John
