Disguised Predators

Whether caught up in the dictatorial world of Bashar al-Assad, Kim Jong-un, or what seems the case, the incoming president, truth is not an option. (Image by Ayin Guselli)

Poem Artwork
Disguised Predators
by Odin Roark

You ask,
what is ahead?

Is it waiting in the darkness for us to falter
as it prepares the desecration of truth,
sometimes seducing our hand
and leading us into colorful ribbons of deflection,
thinking our will is but a matter of time,
smiling at the pain we obediently endure to reach the end.

With such delusional confidence,
ignorance sleeps while we run,
laughs when we cry,
patiently waits with outstretched arms
as our forward motion slows to a defeated crawl.

You ask again,
what is ahead?

Beware of disguised predators,
the praying mantids of invocation gesture,
blending ever so subtly
into the world’s landscape of predatory ambivalence.

I often think of the appeal of PT Barnum, who found it easy to fool people, and the attraction of Hollywood/wealth when it comes to political power with the rise and adoration of Ronald Reagan who, fortunately, did not have any desire to become the dictator he could have.

I lament the idea that simple phrases of positive action with no real way of making it happen can have such appeal to the masses. So many, "I will…" As though becoming a dictator and dishing out favors is the way to lead people to greatness. And, I remember also in another very troubled time, Abraham Lincoln: "You can fool some of the people all the time and all of the people some of the time, but you can't fool all of the people all of the time."

For sure the world is rampant with deceivers. I'm certainly NOT a Trump fan (never have been) but I will give him the benefit of the doubt. We'll know soon enough. But no matter what we find out in the upcoming months; a paradigm shift is coming to this planet and it revolves around Israel. Honest thoughtful work. All the best. r

Great symbol of the predator as the praying mantids in an attitude of prayer. As you mention, like a few people we know. John
