Save You

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

There’s really not much difference between ambition, achievement and success. It comes in domestic costume, 3-piece suits, and promotions. But, few realize there is no victimization, only the creation of our own reality. How many really look hard in the mirror during make-up time or shaving? What do most see? Do they retreat given their most obstinate challenge faces them in reflection? (Image by Shutterstock)

Save You
by Odin Roark

So,
What do you do,
You who rush to be somewhere
Knowing others clamor to jump ahead,
To be there waiting to push you back?

What do you do,
You whose dreams remain tenuous,
Without the courage to risk,
Whose narrow window of time ticks backward
For fear of the future,
Who needs what others wish to prevent,
To stand upon your own weathered peak?

Inclement passage need not be feared,
For the route only you know
Traverses through your own created clouds,
Revealing sunlight you also create
Above the storms no one else can own,
save you.

This makes me thankful for my illness, which got me out of the rat race. Even with pain, I would rather not ever again 'rush to be somewhere.' Absolutely beautiful.

"Above the storms no one else can own,
save you."......What do I do? I just do what I'm supposed to do and some of my own stuff too.

Love ya!

This is a very thoughtful, introspective portrait of those who seek to penetrate the make-believe world of "success" without selling their souls in the hunt. Not likely to be appreciated by those who have not "been there, and done that" for about 50 years or more. Well done.

I sense a strong conviction that we make our own lives and there is no one at the end to save us if we screw up.

save your presence of mind for us because we all are interrelated. Another huge piece of poetry. Cheers, alex

This reminds me of the opening of one of the Buddhist tracts in the Dammapada which states something like: "We are the creation of our own minds." I especially like the verses: "Whose narrow window of time ticks backward // for fear of the future." Well stated. John
