Bubbles in Suspension

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

We read a great deal about people living in socially-connective bubbles, but little about the security-bubble we all create for our inner selves. (Image by Pinterest)

Bubble in Suspension
by Odin Roark

Like a wheel of endless births,
our personal bubble rolls, undulates,
and tries to stay balanced.

From first breath to death,
through meditations of desire,
shopping mall and jails,
farms,
caves,
ghetto inner-cities,
penthouse isolation,
cemeteries and urns,
unmarked graves of dirt and ocean’s
anonymity.

Whether sluiced by life’s briny water,
colored toxic flows,
or pure spring eruptions,
the mind reconstitutes
its textural translucence,
separating and recombining
minuscule droplets of experience’s droplets
into sub-atomic particles for infinity’s grace.

Such, seemingly becoming smaller and smaller,
but not crushed beneath time’s animated history,

for there are the varying treads
of wide circumferential roadwork,
a modern terrain of nature’s fractured flecks,
once molten everything’s anything,
not but survival’s dusty highway.

Still…

One’s bubble idles, rolls and tilts,
imploring brain signals to the heart muscle,
to patiently keep pumping the suspension of thrills and tragedy
as it tries to heal its previous slashes and teasing death threats.

Then, there’s the bubbledom…

That place where sleep and pleasure
remain a swell of spasms and waves,
floating,
rolling,
plodding,
usually reaching to become something it isn’t.

Ultimately…

Mind and heart reluctantly consider giving up,
to avoid any more gasps, deep inhalations,
knowing one’s next iteration,
might be more disturbing than
the morphed and re-morphed translucent spheres
already experienced.

Such is our bubble in suspension,
thinking there’ll never be a pop.

a membrane is such a delicate thing which keeps the whole cell be as it is. . . besides, it is the gateway for multiplication once it is pierced through. And in that multiplication we have what it leads to security of our lives from ending. A tricky thing this membrane, isn't it. . . a piece which is about what is within and without the fence called here 'a bubble in mid air.' Cheers, alex

There's a kind of lugubriousness in this that feels like a cleaving morning mist. My wife used to call it her 'fuzzy bubble'; that place where she felt safe. When the bubble pops (and they all do) the little moisture in it falls where it falls and hopefully encourages more growth. All the best. r

Yes, a very interesting concept. We have our physical existence, usually boundary Dan connected by our daily life and our need to survive from our end of the food chain. And then we have our mental/psychological framework we operate in where we include our friends and family and exclude all those in our innermost bubble of our psyche.

Our bubbles keep us afloat and the outside world out. Until as you point out, something disastrous happens to burst our bubble.

And when we die, our bubble goes away no matter what dynasty we tried to create.

You can see a rainbow in a bubble, but you just burst mine.

An interesting concept, this idea of the bubble, expertly explored. Living as if "there'll never be a pop", but dreading that there always will be a pop. John
