One's Zephyr Within

Might finding the true course of self be the major challenge to identity? (photo by Alicia Savage)

One’s Zephyr Within
by Odin Roark

Do we fly away,
drift away,
stay away,
or stand worthy of leaving?

How fleeting the impressions,
plummeted by the new today,
dismissing yesterday as the old,
daring tomorrow to invent our future.

The labels abound.
Father.
Mother.
Sister.
Brother.
Daughter.
Son.
Lover.
Yet how much a part of each other
are we?

Might it be
we are but separated cells,
incubated into life,
rendered a sameness by others’ fantasies,
even as reality thirsts for fulfillment,
willing to wander aimlessly,
often stumbling through living our personal existence?

To argue such a theory
is to know along the way
seasoned lives find
attachment frequently sever.

That like all of nature,
separations occur,
inviting straying.

Attachments wane.

Our collective experience
challenges the essence of life

Still…

Such eventual enfoldment
leaves us free to venture,
knowing self-determined identity
requires but to hoist liberation’s sails,
catch tomorrow’s wind,
leave behind misbegotten time

And if true …

To watch from afar
the flotsam of the past
knowing destiny is/was of our own making,
not an invention by others,
that sweetness of air
breathed from Zephyrus within
unshackles bondage and releases
the relationship with self.

this piece is the praise to death which actually is the only true means of division, making one be an individual through the separation from all the myriad things. The dilemma is that following the west wind of darkness under the patronage of Zephyrus, we thus run away from the same Nothingness/Darkness embodied in the countless worldly things. . . at large, the moral is: don't worry about the end or a failure because it is your strong point and your successful beginning ;)) Cheers, alex

I struggled to find meaning in your beautiful words. If I understand correctly, a Zephyr is a fair wind. And you write of cell separation as though, while tied to relationships by blood, one has to separate oneself and follow where the wind may take us, in order to really feel free and fulfilled.

I believe it just happens. Cells divide but didn't there have to be the "one first cell" for all this to happen? Your write set my mind on a journey. Oh! Then, why so many different species and colors and builds of living things. Adaptation? Again, enjoyed!

Love ya!

Love the lines: "hoist liberation's sails // catch tomorrow's wind // leave behind misbegotten time." The relationship with self seems to be an on-going endeavor. John
