Exhales at Night

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

How often do we take exhales as just respires, bypassing the reasons, and thus the necessary dealing with the potential causes and a resolve… perhaps ending with de-escalating fear? (Image by Pinterest)

Exhales at Night
by Odin Roark

How troubling the breathtaking,
of highs and lows,
the anticipation
the disappointment.

Such is the plight
of those troubled,
who find release at night,
sometimes with their martini,
6-pack,
or white dust and razor blade.

To catch one’s breath is difficult at times
unless…

One has the realization purging the breath
is uncontrolled,
whether during the day
at a disagreement with one’s supervisor,
or the hang up of a spouse or partner
in a domestic disagreement.

Then…

There’s the man or woman
without a job,
a spouse,
not even a partner.

Damp does their pillow of sleep become
as nocturnal exhaling becomes their only option,
bathed in sweat and tears and the question…

Who am I, really?

You have described a time of identity and the crisis it takes one through but then it could be so much worse as you so aptly put it.

Love ya!

You told the sad tale of many within the words of this soulful write, Odin. Some are there because thy don't believe they have anywhere else to go. Some are there because they are merely fools.

We all have egos. And some of us have egos that go well beyond the realm of reality when it comes to creation. Conflicts are bound to arise. It is only then, and often in the dead of night, that our ability becomes questioned, even by ourselves.

Thanks for pointing out that human flaw in all of us who bite off more than we can chew.

Identity is an elusive commodity, especially in this day and age. you describe it well here, the breath of identity. John
