Poem Artwork
Ship of Dreams Dining
by Odin Roark

Idle the waves,
temperate the speed,
one’s life port and starboard,
balanced,
righted,
afloat with winged calm.

How elegant the setting.

Etched history of crystal refracting sun’s horizon,
while overhead beams of Edison’s genius
highlight floral accents,
so small,
yet to some
so prescient in scope.

They love me,
they love me not
serenades us in silence,
while epicurean silverware
display will-o‘-the-wisps’ reflections
atop white clouds of table’s linen comfort.

Alone, perhaps
as all become,
but such a celebratory buffet
of what might have been.

Having chosen lightly from life’s infatuation,
the naked salads sprouted from grist,
adorned by dressing of mixed color
remind the palate of the banquet’s early beginning.

Once simply samplings of raw growth,
now homogenized with ending’s sweet and sour disguise.

Inhaling deeply,
we beckon moist breezes
curve comforting auras about our mind,
soothe unhealed scars of the heart.

Oh, the remembering…

The remembering.

You have brought back many years to me. I became lost in your words.

Love ya!

I have simple tastes, so elegant dining holds little remembrances of things past for me. But I savor words and ideas expressed with eloquence, and few can tell them as well as the man behind the mask that is Odin Roark. But what's in a name? A rose by any other name...Few can summon moist breezes or curve comforting auras about our minds that will be remembered as fondly as when they were first written.

As a guest on three elegant Caribbean cruises with seemingly forever calm waters, I sampled the menu of cuisine only available to royalty in times past.

Strangely, the filet mignon, lobster and escargot were no more exciting to the taste than the fresh cooked fresh food from our kitchen at home. It may have been we were still being given the food of steerage, but it was certainly a far cry from the salt pork, wormy apples and rum that was the daily fare of early mariners.

Dreams can be what reality is made of until "we beckon moist breezes curve comforting auras about our mind." John
