Creativity’s First Draft

A window,
chair,
table,
paper and pen,
urging at times something
at the ready other than the author.

Exhausted eyes open.

Light passes through,
revealing imagination’s kingdom
where innocence of vision
constructs an alternate state of reality.

Instinct rejoices,
inviting fearless abandon.
Abolition of doubt
becomes trust’s reward.

A sudden breeze
makes restless the paper,
arresting pen’s attention
beckoning ideas to flow.

Eyes gather more light
urging ink’s furrowed lines and space
across waiting landscape.

Tilled grounding embraces syllabic seeds eager to grow,
anticipating harvest to nourish other imaginings
where the most arid of minds will moisten,
provide conception and growth,
perpetuating linguistic fertility.

Only destiny knows of full term,
as gestation differs from mode to mode.
But, writers know birth’s rewarding moment.
