Yes, something we should all ponder. I never was a joiner although I "belonged" to many groups temporarily like I have with AD for a few years now. I am grateful that my parents prepared me for the responsibility of adulthood and allowed me to leave at 18. I am grateful that I was able to leave my first few jobs after working no more than two or three years at them. I am grateful that my wife left me rather than struggle with her having to deal with my increasing paralysis. I regret my aloneness that keeps me from close friendships. But I wouldn't have it any other way.

An interesting concept. I see belonging to oneself as the need to take ownership of who we are; once we have done that, we can freely give ourselves away (as in love). John
