Ever-present Shimmer

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

Consideration while viewing a video of dust settling on attic cobwebs, one can’t help but see the allegorical irony in Carl Sagan’s famous poster of the cosmos and the tiny dot representing earth: “You are here.” Yes, we are. Nowhere else. (Image by Shutterstock)

Ever-present Shimmers

To be that
which knows from where it came,
knows the reality of hard past experience
whose residual it now imbues with reflection
is but light beams bathing
in floating detachments freed,
coming to rest on silent seas of peace.

To know laughter by way of hardened experience
before it can relax into ripples of solitude,
is to know there’s so much more to be learned.

Oh, to accept such an ancient smile,
as 380 million years of eight-legged innocence does,
folding into compliance when necessary,
awaiting and dreaming,
just as a web of dust mite's next iteration
knows existence is ever unpredictable.

Such is the ever-present shimmer
in continuum's non-stop existence.

Oh, yes. There is "so much more to be learned.". We must never stop learning for, if we do, we will have a mind of cobwebs.

Love ya!

This simply written , but deeply felt, Odin, and I personally fellt each word of it. "Ever-present Shimmers" touched me.

Dust has certainly been "settling" here for eons before we were even protoplasm and long after we are gone in this little spaceship we occupy with our pompous ideas of supremacy.

Even the spider that weaves the web that catches the dust that the dust mite eats is the product of 380 million years, much more than we are.

Ron

Incidentally, the dust mite doesn't eat dust, it eats skin. That would make it probably younger than spiders.

Ever present shimmers, but where do they come from, neither we nor the "380 million years of eight legged innocence" knows. But at least he/she/it is innocent. At least we have the consciousness to be able to speculate about such things and and to write about them with intelligence and insight. John
