Buffoonery and Deception

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

9/17/17 - (Yes, at times, there is only the relief of a purge) With so many masks vying for center stage, it would seem intermission couldn’t come too soon. As writers, however, we choose to pay attention, to find truth worthy of exploration. But what of those who flounder outside truth, those forever standing in awe before their chosen escape-belief of oligarchy? Welcome to the Washington D.C. Circus of Horrors, making DACA, Health Care and climate change their continuing game of duplicity.

Buffoonery and Deception

Who walks among us
noticing not the
spurious attention-lights
flooding eyelids ever open?

Such eyes peering from vacuous arrogance
remain impervious to reality’s needs,
knowing little of involuntary teardrops
that rise to cleanse pollutant messages
that so often clutter truth's path.

For those paying attention,
brazen dishonesty seeps through
the slits of glistening facade,
revealing the deceit beneath masks of enticement.

Sadly…

Political theatre is a long running show,
with unblinking eyes staying open,
never sleeping,
forever duping wide-awake audiences
patiently waiting out expository fatigue.

Some persuade by day,
others by night,
dilated pupils made friendly
with layers of surrounding colors,
while undulating caldrons of platitudes
glaze over the waiting eyes of subservience,
as persuasive voices brandish messages
onto deafened ears of acquiescence.

When will the populous learn…

Nominative-masks of manipulation
are at best unreadable masquerades,
patronizing invitations
addressing innocence with praise,
ignorance with pandering.

Modern day Napoleons these,
ambition pursued at any cost,
vulnerable egos financially fortified,
political daredevils bungeed over slippery slopes,
preparing the next attention-grabbing-jump,
anticipating oohs and ahhs
from a constituency’s snake-oil mindset of ignorance.

Days upon days…

These actors with masks,
creating minions of
somnolent followers,
furthering neither peace
nor the sanctity of breath,
remain in office.

Such continues the performances
of Washington’s army of Pantalones,
its very own Commedia dell’arte,
making thinking, reasoning, people an endangered species.

Oh, how seductive this buffoonery and deception.

We are but pawns and sometimes, as my sister-in-law, says, "I feel like a mushroom. I'm kept in the dark and fed a lot of shit.".

Love ya!

And so the play goes on, we on the stage, and all but bit players.
