Red Wagon Patience

The cliché; “what goes around comes around” takes on special meaning for a child of curiosity.

Poem Artwork
Red Wagon Patience

Red wagon wheels in the snow
await Time’s warming interval,
knowing next season will invite
surroundings that relax,
unlock frozen shackles,
making movement free again.

So often, we fault these cyclic forces of Nature
merely managing chronology,
creating allowance,
choice,
necessity,
faith,
trust,
awe.

Like the circle of no end,
existence is perpetuity forever in motion.
rendering you
me,
wagon wheels,
water and rocks,
merely its flux.

Like our blood flow,
continuance will be where it needs to be,
do what it needs to do
in the ever changing infinity.

To accept we are but students in need of understanding
is to remain humble before the universe.

And so…

Come Spring thaw,
when frozen wagon wheels
bring smiles and innocence,
notice the joyful discovery of
a child’s gentle tugging loose
from Winter’s hesitant release,
the liberation of a bright shining movement,
having completed its short rest.

I see a metaphor here for the ebb and flow of the creative process. Enjoyed this. Peace to you... r

You write again of cycles in nature and how we are interconnected. And you write of patience… of calmly waiting until things are right again forward. It is obvious that nature presides and not us.

Unlike the others, I see a toy neglected and left out in the elements. Come spring, I see the bottom of that wagon rusted out like so many before because of the immature behavior of children. And the adults who do not instill good behavior in their children and teach them to put their toys away.

Anyone who is not "humble before the universe" must be a madman full of inconceivable arrogance. We are but what we are. I like the image of the snow-filled red wagon, in itself a symbol of the epitome of childhood. Filling it with snow recalls the magic of childhood.

As for "students in need of understanding", hmmn, I wouldn't want to be one of my students. They already think they are "full of understanding." That's what comes with the arrogance of the age.

Oh, I agree that "we are but students in need of understanding" and that we need to take a a "short rest" occasionally as well. 'Enjoyed!!

Love ya!
