Battles of Wordsmith Warriors

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

Thinking back over the 8 years immersed in word-hell, and many iterations, having Echosis finally published was both a relief and a bit of discomfort. I think I "finished" it, but even after years since its publication, lingering in the back of my mind is, "Did I actually finish it or did I just abandon it?" It is arguable that the question of finishing any piece of writing might be unanswerable. For as most of us know, the war of words never ends, even as battles occasionally deliver victory. Poem Artwork
Battles of Wordsmith Warriors

Amidst a darkened ether,
determined sparks from tired eyes
emit lightning thrusts,
collapsing pages into heaps,
words forever committed to
understandings in free-fall.

Patience holds fast
against Opinion's quicksand,
Belief's trip wires
cautious that Conceit's trap
lurks in the shadows.

Lesser conflicts fought with honorable intentions
recede, forgotten now,
mindful of battles lost and
wars yet to be fought.

Ink upon the clearing spreads rapidly
even as tendrils of enemy efforts remain coiled
hidden beneath unctuous praises
ready to ambush,
prepared to spring open
today's bombardment
of Distraction's artillery.

Sprint we must
across Error's mine-laden fields,
seeking not escape amid the commonality,
but respite among the enlightened.

Flooded by Tenacity's blood,
Mind's drenched landscape
bids calm passage beyond,
rising through wind swept memories,
lifting spirits above seductive doubts.

Evacuating Words cry forth tears
hopefully satiating Reader-needs with resolve.

And then…

The next battle awaits a wordsmith warrior to pick up the pen.

(I bought the book.) Anyhow, what does it take to satisfy the reader? Are you ever done? Are there loose strings? Does the writer ever lose sleep over what he left out? (The book is fantastic, by the way.)

Love ya!

The struggle, indeed the fight, goes on to find the words that can capture the thoughts, emotions, emotions and desires that float through the writer's (poet's) mind, a never-ending battle indeed, and one that I will continue to fight until . . . .
