Time's Insistent Anvil

For such an impatient society, there is a complexity of learning for all of us to address. (Image by fineartamerica).

Poem Artwork
Time's Insistent Anvil

Shortsightedness knows no ally
Its focus blind to willing aid.

Still...

How we enjoy picturing that
Which isn't there,
The "what if"
Often prescribed to dreams,
But made real by denials' insistence,
Relegating simple innocence to the shadows
Where hampered discovery awaits.

Awaits…

Awaits…

How willingly we wet ourselves
Beneath the rainbow waterfall,
knowing drenching has its vicarious beauty.
Not ours
by ownership.
Not anyone's
Whose reality speaks.
But everyone's
By default.

Such an awash of delusion
Roils upon our survival
Over our desire,
Drowning with our self-imposed defeat,
Remaining unknowingly stillborn indefinitely,
Creating current
Beneath the foam and froth
Of cosmic archives
Where Nature's ancient warnings,
Man's embryonic shortcoming
Enjoins chronic ignorance
Until it doesn't.

The fortunate few wake up,
Refusing to drown
In multicolored wakes of chimeras.

We surface
From ocean's horizon,
Find reality,
Content ourselves as self-sufficient islands
Surrounded by life's checks and balances,
Knowing uips and downs
Are Nature's way of emptying tributaries
Many call experience.
Others--missed opportunity

We...

Through it all
Known honesty
Is but Time’s patience.

Like a hammer in freeze-frame,
Poised above the anvil,
Knowing its dropping
Induces a foot print
Of who we are,
Not what we might wish to be,
We hesitate.

We resist.

You.

Me.

Oh, you have resistance going on all through this amazing poem! It is necessary but that pause at the end beats all!

Love ya!

Change is ever present… Let's just hope that it is change in the right direction. If not, we must resist and change direction.

Certainly 'ignorant impatience' is one of the unhealthy roots of the human condition. You cannot force life to give you answers, you must let them unfold before you. A wise man makes his own decisions and (hopefully) makes a lasting footprint of who he is; one that can help or teach others. Substantive insight that allows the reader leeway in interpretation. Enjoyed. r

You explore difficult themes and in doing so make them seem more approachable, more accessible. Time of course is one of life's great mysteries, in a sense, an invention of our own in accordance with universal law and the force of its anvil is unmistakable. Dying is the price we pay for time's reality.
