Political Junkyard Dogs

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

Assad seems determined to make Syria a non-entity as far as being a geographical place on our maps. There’s nothing but ruin, nothing to map. How can any self-respecting human stand by and allow Assad and Putin to do what they do to humanity in this region? Where’s the US Seals who know how to correct dictatorial rule? Russia’s mass bombing of besieged Eastern Ghouta region harkens back to the 57-day bombing-blitz of London in 1940. My doG, is another genocide the measure of how far we’ve progressed? For Christ’s sake, world. And the UN? Do something besides a proposed 30-day cease fire which is wishful thinking. WORLD… Wake the fuck up. It’s time to take a couple of Junkyard Dogs out. https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/syria-ghouta-bombing-cant-count-bodies_us_5a91628ce4b01e9e56bc2457 (Image by Getty)

Poem Artwork
Political Junkyard Dogs

Does it have to be this way,
cries the inner voice,
captured,
starved,
beaten,
trained to hate,
mostly self?

Bark loud,
bare your teeth,
growl some fear,
bellows the master,
gripping the chain,
choking and whipping,
burrowing his will deep into soft matter,
once of connected neural sparks,
perpetual holiday glow,
now lit by dimming light,
the moonlight glint of razor wire captivity,
walling in all that's left.

How calm once
must have been this new-born sentience,
this simple love,
born of gentle nuzzling caress,
a mother's honor to care,
given with innate affection,
nurtured,
attended,
guided,
until...

Somewhere along maturation's path
fear-mongers lobbied,
peacenik-slurs became the battle cry
as violence taught as norm,
seeded fear into possession of arms,
the price one pays
to protect oneself,
says the master.

Others were cited as takers and manipulators.

Paranoia began its insidious creep.

The bloodstream's contamination grew.
Pollution worked its eroding effect
‘til synaptic connections frayed.

Tenuous resolve succumbed.
Lights dimmed.
Sparks died.
Darkness became the light.

Does it have to be this way?

The junkyard dog longs for the warmth of what once was,
even as collars cinch tighter,
chains jerk harder,
shouts to obey become louder.

Might there be no answer?

Might we be too far gone?

Might wars of mind
finally capitulate,
drift,
disintegrate,
become but dinner scraps
to be fed to the next generation
perpetuating the endless cycle?

Junkyard dogs.
Made.
Not born.

Although only 500 civilians died there last week, the massive destruction of property alone is untenable. Now relayed to us in real time from citizen reporters and international reporters posed on the scene catching every nuance and reporting it.

I say "only 500" because, while this genocide is horrific, it pales by comparison to genocides going on in Miramar and Yemen right now that are not as well reported and have been going on seemingly forever. Despot after despot. Beautiful country ruined and if citizens killed, over and over.

If we are to be the "big brother" on the block of the world, we need to send our junkyard dogs everywhere these kinds and things are happening without permission from the United Nations or any entity that holds back humanitarian aid for some kind of "cease-fire." Wrong is wrong, and if "America is great," we should be able to use our immense defense force to hone its skills by deciding side is being a bully, swoop in and teach that bully a lesson.

But we are unlikely to get a Monroe-like doctrine out of the coward in the White House. Just… "They were good people… Good… Very good people… I love them and they love me."

Tyrants like Assad usually fail, but not until they cause untenable pain-and-suffering.

I can't watch the reports anymore. I weep like a child. I cannot wrap my head around that part of the human mind. Seems human history is little else than a picture of humanity's crimes and misfortunes. On a lighter note: that image looks almost exactly like a history teacher I had in High School. (-: A moving piece. Peace... r

It doesn't have to be this way, but when you have the likes of Assad and the rest of his family, this is all they know, absolute corrupting power. May they burn in hell with the rest of the dogs.
