Lexiconic Bliss

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

Having come from 50+years in Hollywierd screen writing and directing scripts, as well as my own, it’s rather easy to argue one’s choice of writing discipline reflects one’s entrapment or lack of. (Image by funquatre)

Poem Artwork
Lexiconic Bliss

Poetry readers,
Listeners,
And the curious.

Might it be
Poets escape demands?

Do they do
Beyond mere being?

Is it not possible
Dignity's survival depends
On being detached
From that which
Wishes
To attach?

Could such inner freedom
liquefy shackles
Of riches,
Of fame,
Of expectation?

And...

Is it possible
Rewards reside
In dances with words,
While others labor language
To serve,
To validate,
To insure
Their attachment
To other others?

Perhaps...

Spirits generous
Remain uncontainable,
Like water running
Around,
And over
Stones,
And other
Obstacles impotent
To imprisonment.

For some...

Aloneness
Protects true peace,
The calm voice
Whispering a language of fire
From a forever candle,
A flame impervious to storms,
Its seclusion secured.

Still…

Humble we must be,
For we are but stand-ins
For sunrises in the dark,
We poets,
We purveyors of
Lexiconic bliss.

I had a bunch of film shots of things that caused me to think and let go to get to the next thing to think about. Cool! This was fun!

Love ya!

You speak tons of wisdom about poets and poetry. I have noticed that poetry attracts those who do not have lexiconIc skills but wish to say something without the encumbrance of rules of writing. On the other hand, there are those that feel compelled to write poetry in very strict confines as though it is a great accomplishment to write to such restriction.

I've said it before and I will say it again. The only good poem is one that communicates to the reader what the writer intended. Without communicating the writer's true thoughts, a poem is worthless. The simple examination of any great poem is the simple way it communicates something true about life. Almost everyone can connect with that. Gibberish is not poetry and never will be.

And for all those reasons we will never see
your name on Forbes's list of the wealthiest among us.
But they make one hell of a resume to those of us
who have dared to navigate those stony waters where
words and phrases are so easy to read but so difficult
to grasp. A great summation of--and tribute to--poetry.

Ah we poor poets. Lexiconic bliss (what a phase) does not always bring emotional bliss. Write on. . .
