I think perhaps we are not alone, although the recently started TV series One Strange Rock does have the caveat, "We may be the only, and strangest place in the universe."

As we search the history and prehistory of earth, we find that isolated populations/civilizations tend to have a S-shaped growth and decline curve like almost anything in a self perfecting, survival of the fittest, trajectory that life on the planet is taking. Recent discoveries in Egypt, the Mayan Empire, and especially, Easter Island, give us clues as to what our nature does to us as a civilization.

I find it most depictions extraterrestrials are quite laughable… Imagining many flawed and inferior beings who are capable of star travel but always have a weakness when dealing with superior Earthlings. Star Trek and Star Wars seem to depict a soap opera masquerade party. Although some episodes of Star Trek seem closer to the mark.

Your wonderings are worth wondering. And I am still wondering why it has all gone so wrong on planet earth amid all the multitude of stars.

every culture, if quite solid, is double-ended to have the room for development on the way to its inevitable end. Thus, Eden is Hell and vice versa. there are some striking examples of other cultures and civilizations' sudden disheartening from the surface of the earth when internal mechanism of their constructions works out itself. Methinks the two-end structure is not self-sufficient to last long in this world. Cheers, alex
