Earth as a Rest Stop?

With endless beginnings
and never-ever endings,
what evolution of form and substance
might be next in the atom’s perpetual state?

To imagine our dust,
our molecular confinement set lose,
to picture the infinite possibilities for
our unbridled continuance merging with the cosmos,
finding purchase somewhere
in the swirling universe of galaxies,
the still-to-be-understood possibilities
beyond earth-life,
is to ponder an existential challenge.

Might we someday understand such journeys of energy
represent but the infinite continuum of creation,
and perhaps the only explanation for this ever-so-short
and questionable rest-stop for human life?
