Moments-in-Waiting

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

In today’s world of miscreants and demagoguery, truly taking each day a moment at a time is not without courageous determination. (Image by 123rif)

Poem Artwork
Moments-in-Waiting

One’s special space,
where chin resting upon knees tucked,
arms wrapped tight,
being the ball we wish to be.

How many like moments
harbor our protected thoughts,
those times when happiness hangs tenuous
like a spider and its web trusting no harm will come
while trying to anchor tomorrow’s hope?

As child, adult or senior
haven’t we all been there
perhaps in a closet,
bedroom corner,
or attic darkness?

We carry our anticipated moments to come
upon our backs,
fingers tightly interlaced,
squeezed eyelids unable to weep,
feeling vulnerable as one trapped beneath frozen ice.

Such are life’s weigh-stations of coming moments,
made uneasy by sounds of life’s eager barkers atop soapboxes,
rendering a cacophony of anxiety invading our minds,
fomenting fears, expectations, dreams, and disappointments.

For the fortunate…

Loosening the grip,
lifting the head
allowing the arms to spread,
taking an unencumbered breath,
often for the first time,
leads to that epiphany-gilded space
known as Acceptance.

Receiving discovery as a gift
is not without another consideration, however,
for assent to illumination,
requires the heart not left behind.

Such rewards of clear thinking, attended with passion,
remain without parallel,
even as such rewards may be challenged by future delays,
for life exists but as never ending moments-in-waiting.

That moment of "Acceptance." is like no other.

Love ya!

A very philosophical look at life and its attending moments of contemplation, grief, and acceptance. No life goes the way contemplated. Some are accelerated into the limelight with too much responsibility. Their lives tend to be short. On the other hand, a long-suffering life filled with anguish, can turn out all right in the end. We never know which way each moment will take us.

the title sounds to me like a Guardian who is all above, the Grand-Master-of-Times-in-Waiting. For this reason, the ancients lived according to the quarters of an hour, not by hours, dividing a day for 81 pieces (apprx. 17.5 min.) What for? For the sake of the Moments-in-Waiting. Painful? Yes, but it 'leads to that epiphany-gilded space
known as Acceptance.' Enjoyed reading this great piece, Odin. Cheers, alex
