Body's Reverse Engineering

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

- It was once arguable that flesh and bone could combat the science of survival with weapons to defeat the intellect of technology, but…well, that was yesterday. We’ve been disintegrating our rational logic for a very long time. The remedy is preparing. (Image by tumbir)

Poem Artwork
Body’s Reverse Engineering

A body once was
The human vehicle,
That transport enabling
A deserved stay on this planet.

But today…

No matter the size,
Shape,
Skin tone,
Or health,
It often becomes an impediment
In realizing the sense of beautiful.

It is too slow,
Wouldn’t last for that day coming,
Needing sleep,
Food,
Care and touching.
Oh, the touching.

The body hates mirrors,
Where eyebrows furrowed
Over blue eyes unsatisfied,
Covets brown, green or hazel,
The pre-designer obsession.

Reflections pierce the body’s psyche,
Where once stalwart flesh
Has become unforgivable betrayals
Of aging hearts,
Liver,
Kidney,
And libido.
Thus, the form's revolution.

So long this coming of age…

For now the body,
Once of flesh and bone,
Struts its designer label about,
Its brain of infinite power,
Its muscles able to leap buildings
In less than a single bound,
Its beauty always
In the digital eyes of the beholder
Just as Time’s virtual reality allows.
Its warranty renewable
Every…

How many years?

And so…

Body past
Body future
Body alive
Body manufactured
Body once of love
Body now of digital obedience.

Survival was never an option,
Save stubbornness of spiritual zealots,
Those holders of yesterday,
Unknowing it was but mulch for tomorrow.

Body facts succumbed.
Body fiction became.
Body future now an oxymoron.

Such is tomorrow’s mental landscape of zeros and ones.

And we think AI is stoppable?
Uh…really?

Hey! Let up a little on the known and inevitable! I mean, yes, the kidneys and livers do go. As a Caregiver, Hospice Nurses have taught me so much! You write so affluently and give deeper meaning to your stuff but, wow! This one is a K.O.!!

Love ya!

The robots are going to take all the jobs away from people. It has already begun. They've got one that can fix you breakfast. It works in the kitchen. I'm saddened to see our young people struggling to find jobs, and yet scientists keep producing robots to take jobs away for real people who have spent endless of hours to go to school to better themselves. Really sad indeed.

We may not be made up of zeros and ones, but we are made up of four letter combinations in our DNA. Gene splicing and cloning are now realities and no longer science fiction. There are many in the field of genetics who believe that we can indefinitely repair bodies and create immortality by as early as 2030.

With that in mind, the battle between humanity and AI may rage for some time because humans in the future will have traits unimaginable today with replacement parts, extended memory, total disease control and other niceties that we dream of in science fiction (and comic books?).

No, not really. It is unstoppable and I see it everyday as students walk around the campus like automatons with their heads (and minds) in their "smart" phones (I don't have one; so my head is somewhere else, in the air and sky.) So much for the body.
