Punchinello-Zerodom

Might the ever-present feeling of helplessness be a growing mental pandemic? (Image by pinterest)

Poem Artwork
Punchinello-Zerodom

To peer down from the pseudo-security of being above it all,
where that anywhere/everywhere place of delusional control
runs the risk of being drawn in the milieu of ugliness,
the hypocrisy of endless orbits of fantasy,
where rouge adorns aged sunken faces,
Tiffany jewels shackle shriveled wrists
and colored inks-of-identity render sallow skin
but a decorative escape from who we wish we weren’t.

Yes…

Life’s puppet show appears charming,
even entertaining to the seeker of diversion,
especially where emptiness of principal allows
the lock-step of seduction to kick volatile kindling
into the path of annihilation,
igniting the simple spark of fear’s consummate flame.

Yet…

Some of us choose to render such a stage empty,
vanquishing the strings of manipulation,
abandoning the Punchinello existence of attachment’s strings,
opting instead the simple breathing of stress and syllable
finding the magic of words can lift author and reader alike
into the vastness of humankind’s heart and mind,
allowing such rarefied independence
to take us farther and farther from zerodom’s trap.

Indeed, your final stanza says it all: That's what we try to do as poets, abandoning "the existence of attachment's strings" and opting instead to find "the magic of words." I couldn't have said it better (and didn't).

Some people are manipulative and have an innate power to lead, giving advice to those who are in need. I believe this is an inborn talent. Most world leaders seem to have this quality; while some others are just self-proclaimed experts, giving ill and unsolicited misinformed advice, forcing their ill advice on people of diversity, disallowing them to feel more superior, forcing them to go back tens and tens of decades reassuring them they are still slaves. Some people are simply happy to be misguided and manipulated, to be someone's puppets on a string. We see this happening a lot nowadays.

My kind of writing, Odin, You took on, and understood the idiosyncrasies and concept of inadvisable thinking, and where it may lead us. The very descriptive lines mounted somewhat of a challenge to those of us who might be very set in their ways. I know it led me to believe that it did. Eh . . . I may be all wrong about what you had in mind as you composed the very enjoyable read.
