Whirlpool-Supremacy

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

Having an appreciation for the power of mirrors as a metaphor (my published novel, "3 Way Mirror" and various chapters in two other novels dealing with mirrored reflections) I found myself of late thinking once again in that direction and realized my present day concerns needed grounding to keep from snapping. Hopefully, this short rumination on a long thought will resonate how serious the fate of this country is as it continues to be thrown into a gathering tempest. (Image by Enecio)

Poem Artwork
Whirlpool-Supremacy

Rivers of Mirrors,
flowing endlessly from year to year,
carving channels that once carried sun and moon
along with bended trees and sky above innocent faces
whose present reflection is but a torment beneath the rippling surface,
avoiding the pungent ache of history left behind.

Like the winding track of the serpent,
reality’s waters move the shattered dreams afloat,
ever tactful of the needed resolve
to reach the caldron ahead,
where stirring yesterday’s elements
into an improved recipe for life is all that’s left.

Such is the swirling waste of the past,
converging with future's flow
where melting experiences
opt to offer inevitable mistakes to once again
ripple the reflection of resurgent life for the next iteration.

For now the oceanic hot and cold currents
beckon innocent soul-laden tributaries
moving beneath clinging garbage awash,
even as a fractured sky portrays but shards of sun and moon
to illumine the swirling residue of mirrored graveyards.

Corrupt power ultimately sinks,
drowning beneath the icing junk of its disintegrating armor,
joining history’s legacy of deft ignorance,
that delusional dead zone of whirlpool-supremacy over others,
reaching for you and me,
all the conscious beings still treading water.

This is a very powerful bit of prosetry that illustrates the irony of how we continue to make the same mistakes as we did in the past as we look into the looking glass of the future. It applies to individual lives as well as society as a whole. I kept thinking of a black hole, drawing us in inevitably. But long before that, we will succumb to our excesses.

Truer words were never spoken. We are heading for the abyss. The way of the world will have its way and there isn't much we individual can do about it, except perhaps raising up the mirror as you have done here in this poem.
