Body/MInd Becoming...

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

It was once arguable that flesh and bone could combat the science of survival with weapons to defeat the intellect of technology, but…well, that was yesterday. We’ve been willing to obviate our rational logic for a very long time. Now… (Image by tumbir)

Poem Artwork
Body/Mind Becoming…

A body once was
the human vehicle,
that bio-transport enabling
a stay on this planet.

No matter the size,
shape,
skin tone,
or strength,
it was the possessor’s
sense of beautiful.

For many, however…

It was too slow,
wouldn’t last for that day coming.

So many needing sleep,
food, care and touching.
Oh, the touching,
such an appreciated need.

But…

The body has always had a love/hate relationship with mirrors,
those moments where eyebrows furrowed
over blue eyes unsatisfied,
coveting brown, green or hazel,
this week’s trending designer obsession.

Think it’s reserved for women?
Think twice.

Reflections pierce gender neutral psyches,
where once stalwart flesh and bones
have become unforgivable betrayals
of aging hearts,
liver,
kidney,
and libido,
ushering in the narcissistic pandemic.

Far too many bodies today strut designer labels
below the once thinking brain of infinite power,
now fantasizing muscles able to leap buildings
in less than a single bound,
the Superman,
the Superwoman,
buying into the imagined wanna-be reality
of digital-enhanced fantasy of power and money.

So goes media’s global virtual reality show,
Its subscription renewable in perpetuity.

And so…

Body past.
Body future.
Body alive.
Body manufactured.
Body once of love.
Body now of digital obedience succumbing.

Binary compulsion is the Caesar-flavor of the day.

Oh, for so many…

Survival was never an option,
save stubbornness of spiritual zealots,
those holders of yesterday’s beliefs,
mindlessly marching into the mulch of tomorrow.

Body history has succumbed.
Body fiction rules today.
Body future is becoming an oxymoron.

Such beckons the impending mental landscape of zeros and ones.

And for those thinking it stoppable…

An app is not likely to come soon.

Perhaps an android companion,
a mind cloning buddy to be the last vestige
of human-like behavior,
conceivably the last remaining
link to a body that once was?

No matter how old we get, the "G spot" is where it's at. Remember that, hon! Throw in a little fantasy, and you got a home run!

Love ya!

Gone are the days, apparently, when the body was the house of the soul. We live, we pass through stages of infancy, adolescence, maturity and finally old age in which the face and body show the count of the years and the nature of the life experience. What you have mapped out here by way of suggestion is frightening and probably true.

A lot of contemplation both upon our current existence and the potential future shock of what may come. Humans have had to have superior bodies to survive just to reproduce for most of our existence as humans. That changed, perhaps 50,000 years ago when we started to use the technologies of fire, spears and arrows, and shape materials like mud into bricks and crockery for many uses. This technology gave us free time from 24/7 fearful existence to contemplate who and what we are.

Today, you describe an idealized/pixelated superhuman that everyone aspires to through various methods. Our view of the body perfect has changed greatly when one just looks at beauty pageants from the 1920s. What makes it harder is that although this ideal of body perfect can be achieved by almost anyone, our world contains all kinds of vices like fast food that take us in the other direction.

In the end you refer to substitutes for perfection when it comes to opposites of our affection. When we all have android lovers, our population explosion will be over.

Ron
