Poem Artwork
The Pollution Age

A singularity season has encroached on nature,
becoming a gluttonous global house of ill repute,
greed’s celebrated landscape-whoremaster,
inevitability’s polluted tempest,
pimping out innocence into life’s ocean,
where slime remains all that’s alive.

Like a live piñata in mourning…

High above and deep within
the cleavage of her once proud peaks,
sanity gasps at disappearing glacial pools,
reduced to but poisonous tears
spilling out over a valley’s naked skin
stripped of all modesty and dignity.

Like the everyday survivor…

Polluted and diseased,
tributaries are violated,
her legs made to spread,
dragging more half-dressed
trees and wild flowers into
the seductive mission
to lure into death,
as if a paradise of darkness could ever replace
the peak-a-boo game of clouds and sun,
or rain’s tap dancing revues atop the lakes,
driven by the choruses of once singing birds
mingling their dissonance with the wolf’s solo howl.

Yet…

Humanity and the very world nature has served so well
has been struck dumb,
flaunting consumer arrogance
to vanquish its surroundings with debauchery,
turning sky’s once tumbling billows of foreplay
into a heavy polluted sadness, a stillborn toxic mote,
whose density of abuse continues smothering earth’s life-light
into a cyclic rotation of impotence…

Nature’s future Pollution Age,
a melting of heart and mind,
global Love most likely its only deterrent.

WoW! You have covered so much within the lines of this poem, Odin. Writing deep into nature, using words which on a first read the reader might very well believe you are singing the prases of a fine looking woman who has major problems. This one is absolutely "special," my friend.

You are referring to an age that will gather great infamy. For too many, it has not dawned on them yet. But the power of persuasion through commercials is about the only way to reach our consumer society. I just saw an advertisement for V-8 juice where they have abandoned plastic containers for the more shiny and returnable aluminum that used to dress up the landscape in even the remotest parts until poor people discovered they could make pennies collecting them for recycle.
