Rainbows of the Dark

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

To the eye, white is the absence of color visually but principally it is all colors in the rainbow, containing all wavelengths, the polychromatic light. In the visible spectrum, black is the absorption of all colors, the visual impression experienced when no visible light reaches the eye. Might it be that without the dark, we cannot know the light? Poem Artwork

Rainbows of the Dark

One’s conscience knows little discretion

while escaping oppressive darkness.

Those…

Of flawed, confused,

fear-driven shadows of themselves flounder

while the blood-hungry-visceral tempters control.

Some…

Awaken as the oozing of crimson threat

seeps into their consciousness.

Others…

Like Wile E. Coyote,

need black-hardened asphalt

rendered to the head,

even if only to see tweety birds

flutter to white musical notes.

A few…

Recognize spectrum’s inherent disturbance,

space morphing itself into

a rainbow’s gathered energy for sensorial gratification,

that personal reward beyond the obvious.

But for some searching…

For the unexpected ebb and flow of patience,

there awaits convergence beneath the surface,

the exploding forth of golden rich reflections

of a winged lion swirling up through the mist,

roaring echoes of wisdom’s imagination

enjoined with the depth of time’s indubitable past,

the omnipresent light beaming the undefined futures

with fractal layers of discovery.

Having finally arrived…

The sublime awakens the many

shapes, forms, and colors

of creativity’s embracing hearts and minds absent color,

finally realizing the scintillating, effervescent, rainbow-rich

quiet hues within longing only to be.

Hopefully…

Today’s tomorrows will provide

the Auroras yet to be experienced,

perhaps diminishing the colorless void

needing but some light to arrest

the rainbows of the dark.

Your metaphoric colors and use of words to cause a sense of feeling those waves of colors going on...........especially the use of the rare color, red, "Awaken as the oozing of crimson threat seeps into their consciousness.". Nice! "the rainbows of the dark.", in fact, three months of darkness. 'Enjoyed!

Love ya!

The aurora borealis is an incredible sight that everyone should experience. And it plays best when there is no moon and literally an absence of light. I have been lucky enough to see reds and yellows as well as the normal blues and greens of shimmering curtains drifting by like clouds containing all the colors of the spectrum in their pure white form.

Your poem gave me rainbows of thought.

Would that world be exciting and evolving, Odin. A wonder to fall into place among all our other wonders of the world. Exquisite thinking.

Of course! Why not rainbows in the dark? We cannot possibly exist without both light and dark, so the real mystery is why we so embrace the one and are terrified of the other. And we need them both in roughly equal doses, else we'd be living (or trying to) in one of the arctic poles (or never evolved in the first place) ... fine piece, Odin.

What an intriguing idea to uncover "rainbows of the dark." Worth exploring indeed.
