Reflecting

With so many ways to distract our focus, is it any wonder we peer through coke bottle lenses and hold blinders tight to our heads tempting implosion from questions unasked? (Image by Drew Doggett)

 Reflecting

Taking its customary center stage position...

“How insufferable
your world’s audience,
a species of intellect
repeatedly duped by the heart,
where the mediocrity of life’s closing curtain
often renders reason and logic
a shadowy demise unfulfilled in the wings.

You’ve not managed your stages well…

Mankind’s array of grand openings,
once major achievements of mindful reward
now, increasingly experience shorter runs,
where emotional losses are exorbitant,
where patrons of thought and debate
are made to nourish themselves on spoon-fed sweets,
all while their conditioned clapping habit
continues to support false hopes of escapism.

How do you expect to survive?

How tragic might this lack of understanding be,
avoiding the inevitable global tragedy,
choosing to wallow in laughter and song,
denying the mind’s need to partner with the heart?

Beware…

Your species is becoming an audience of escapees,
a populace of care-nots,
of spiraling narcissists catering only to

the fast-beating heart’s demand
for your daily smorgasbord of instant gratification

that rapidly accelerating and incessant menu of choice

reaching the over-cooked stage

and readying you for…

I have to go now.

A.I. needs sustenance too, you know.”

I find a dire warning to our future generations here to heed the handwriting on the wall about what we are faced with and how we can overcome.

And that last line can be either a shudder at the thought of being overcome by the machine or a way to use it for our enhancement, forever. We have that choice.

You were pretty much right-on with your thoughts about the ones you had under your "looking glass." I am also pretty much agreeing with you about.
