Perambulating Dust

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

Might there be too little focus on the fact that all matter came from dust, and will return to same, and then, well, more matter? And is there any argument worthy of critical thought that denies we are merely a specialized and endowed evolution of matter? “Microscopic particles from space have been collecting in the gutters of Paris, Oslo and Berlin, revealing incredible insights to the mysteries of our solar system.”

Poem Artwork

Perambulating Dust

Does the universe know of itself

without light giving

the floating residue of Time's attic

images for its ever-changing progress?

Archipelagos of micro-vortexes

listlessly clamor for survival

as sentient beings we,

hold tightly

our acquired beliefs,

our possessions,

our hubris.

Yet…

Listening quietly

to the gradual attrition of our minds,

resolutely the invisible erosion of synapses

await simple sparks of wisdom’s illumination.

For…

Just as the winged fluttering of the Papillion

sheds scales of beauty and color,

and attic memories forever suspend and collapse

expand and contract,

so too is not man's experience

merely a cosmic quiver of matter,

eventually jettisoning its used and worn

as celestial dust,

making room for future

birth,

growth,

more erosion,

perpetual movement?

Perhaps…

Dust without light

is but a foreshadow

awaiting Time's need

to focus illumination,

to flutter open the eyes

and evoke the remembrance,

the oneness of all matter,

especially the dust destined

to attach and become yet another…

"'so too is not man's experience

Absolutely . . . Yesss! In other word absolutely. You said things which I dearly understood and agree with a passion about. I could never put my beliefs in such a fantastic way, but yessss!

You have said a lot about what we are… magic dust. Somehow coalesced in such a way as to act intelligently and shape our own destiny until we, like everything else, return to dust in due time.

But I think of a perambulator for our carriage into adulthood, it would have to be motion. A concept you thoughtfully applied to the idea of movement creating us from dust. Cool.
