Curing Sanity

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

In a world where conformity bodes well for those satisfied with mediocrity, far too little is credited to the inordinate creativity that challenges and often upsets the mental health of the so-called sane. (Image by NY Times)

Poem Artwork

Curing Sanity

How gentle we must tread,
For crazy remains tacked,
Hammered,
Forged
Upon censoring minds.

After all,
They tell us,
How can we anticipate respect
When we admire and contemplate those
Who paint chapel ceilings upside down,
Cut off their ears,
Fill their pockets with stones to enter raging waters,
Painfully compose major works while deaf,
Dig through sewer mud seeking sculpture's clay?

Might it be,
Creative efforts provide
Much needed remedies
For curing sanity?

I have for one, would like to hang one of those masterpieces by insane artists on the wall of my home so that I can view what insanity looks like and admire it every day.

I guess that's why many poets seem to have a streak of insanity driving their poetic expression. Yet while I read your poetry with sometimes, misunderstanding, you sanely cut through the insanity of our cardboard/plastic existence driven by advertising into realms of new thought.

Great question, great poem. Love the title and especially the second stanza.

You pose a question, Odin. Indeed, they do! Having no sanity left to cure, I rest easy, you Pro, you!

Love ya!
