Every life, whether as mountain climber, or monk before Buddha, finds moments to ponder the “what if” of death. (Image by pinterest)

Poem Artwork

Keep Safe

View from on high…

Scree sprinkled basin,
Once birch and ash amidst
Pines' shadow.

Down into the bowl…

Yesterday's snow-clad mysteries,

Now of seasoned leaves making dervish their dance,

Catch sun's shimmering dalliance,
A fractal rainbow suspended,
Terrace to terrace,
Stair-step tiered,
Climber-eroded mountain sides conceded.

Still further down…

Stealing slowly,
The brambles,
Nature's love thorn creepers,
Enfold meadows where grasses thigh-high
Once bent to wind's call to the basin.

Time pauses.

A dog's bark echoes up,

Embracing Yosemite’s pinnacle-silence
As breeze sways his bivouac's lullaby,
Making magical the rising mist,
A future genesis awaiting its start

Amidst distant lake’s drifting fog.

Beyond…

The afterglow of dusk
Bows its light of reverence
To early stars on high,

Asking only the night...

Keep safe this man

Your imagery in this poem is fantastic, Odin! I am so amazed at the people who take these treks. Yes, about the imagery.........it made this write three dimensional! Outstanding.............again!

Love ya!

Certainly not want to roll over in one's sleep! I like how you captured sounds and images from on high. Somehow, up there, they are different. I also read someone familiar with mountain climbing and pushing the limits of physical ability. The recent documentary in IMAX, Free Solo, with its feature of a real life Spider-Man, is absolutely stunning and terrifying at the same time. I can't imagine the type of intestinal fortitude it takes to free climb El Capitan.

True, there is treachery afoot both day and keep. We need safe-keeping somehow.

Photo reminds me when I lived in Wyoming. I was never THAT much of a daredevil, but I had my moments.
