Lady Justice

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

This week, with the congressional vote on the legality of Trump’s emergency declaration, North Korea, Venezuela, Cohen testimony (amidst tweeted intimidation from Republican Representative, Matt Gaetz) et al, one has to wonder: Is law as we once knew it disappearing? Has “Truth” become an endangered principal, or perhaps being demoted to but an American catchword—an ideal that all of us are supposedly striving for. Honesty is a living, breathing reality, a necessary virtue that helps keep society and communities safe, strong, and cohesive. Without it we lose direction and our society becomes dysfunctional, chaotic. Blatant lying and perjury by those we’ve placed in positions of power—the police, federal officials, members of the judiciary, etc.—should never be tolerated. Poem Artwork

Lady Justice

3-piece suits,
addicts of duplicity,
padded cells of inner prisons,
bang body against soul,
while eyeballing clock and gavel.

Countdowns continue.

Twists and turns of wagging tongues
fill the air with mendacious words,
urging time for strategy’s lock-picking tools,

Legal costumes become home to perspiring guilt,
unshackled hands of madness rest sweaty palms
on briefs and declarations stacked like an arsenal
or spears and arrows pointed at an enemy…
the enemy…
any enemy.

As the world’s juries slump into lethargy,
Lady Justice,
her sword profaned,
her scales languishing,
silently weeps for the mutating of right and wrong,
while man’s moral compass spins out of control,
a true north of principals nowhere in sight.

Speak for yourself, Michael Schafer. Which I suppose that is more or less what you are doing.

We all know the truth is what is offered by our purveyor in chief. The simple solution that he knows the answer to and we don't. But the truth by Trump is quite palliative of our fears and we have to do nothing except loyally believe and follow him with our instincts self-preservation and stewardship befitting our humble lifestyles and Don't we?

With so many special interests competing, the truth has become so blurred, it's hard to tell black from white and right from wrong. And having a leader who daily attacks the truth, and those that believe in those lies, are hurting us all. There's nothing worse than mass delusion.
