Family Fridge Diary

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

Notes sometimes carry lasting messages. So, another experiment in prosetry that with 120,000 troops being considered for deployment to the Iran area. Well, what can we say? War is a way of life now.

Family Fridge Diary

Deployment

Should have told you
I'm sorry

I've buttered
the last piece
the heel
you never eat

Can you forgive me

I toasted it
like you used to do
like you used to make
for me

I won't be back for a while

Some days you have only yesterdays

Tomorrow's Memories

Finishin' up my 2nd cup
Gonna wash the dish now

Squeak on that upstairs step
So bad lately
Damn
Sorry
Promise to get on it, okay?

Remember how you snuck me in the back door
My first date past midnight
You told me sneakin' wasn't good
That "squeaker" would catch you
Boy was Mom mad
'Till next morning
She fixed me eggs before school
Told me to drive safe

Dad gave me the title slip that morning
Remember
And you thought I'd never pay him off
Miss the old Victoria
'53 was a great year for Ford

Wish dad was still here

Wish you were still here

BTW
His Toyota still runs well
Ads say it'll run forever

Forever

Well
Fridge door's runnin' out of space

All these notes hangin’ will hang til they don’t
Never know when to shut up
Do I?

Love ya my man

It was a very good year, and for me the glass conundrum of half full or half empty remains an oxymoron. But, like ol’ blue eyes, it’s great to wake up knowing I did it our way and lived to see the glass... miss you my hero in armor with those ol’ blue eyes of mine.

¾ Full

Wow
75
Gotta pinch myself

Ol' gravity folds aplenty
lots of sag
little lift
‘cept where it counts

Chill the bubbly
ice the Goose
gotta a glass rarin' to go
¼ empty...Uh-uh
¾ full...that's what I'm sayin'

Don't go crazy now
one candle will do
we'll blow it together
"sexy" you say
crazy for sure

Damn
75
Gotta love it, eh

You’d be about 78 now

Save that IED

Love you

This is like a walk through another part of life. A terrible part. Notes on the fridge, Odin! You turn them into a work of art!

Love ya!

That was so telling right down to the end. No "Danny Boy," here. Just mom holding down the fort until daddy gets home… Someday. And as you so pointedly wrote, that someday didn't come.

War is hell. Especially on the survivors.

Ron
