The Phantasmic Fantasy

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

Whether on the streets of London, or the past of Washington Mall celebration, gilt and glitter abound, promises made, promises broken, lies spun into persuasive convincing. When will we accept fantasy is fantasy? (Image by Mark Bryan)

The Phantasmic Fantasy

Unlike our tomorrows
Our yesterdays have been special
Projecting our todays worthy of regret

Yesterday…

What started out as mere composition

On the steps of Washington
Something most do well
Scarfs
Coats
A hand in hand
Making an ordinary group picture unique
Smiles
Arms in arms
Shoulder pals
Stoic faces for good measure
All enjoined for camera’s sake
Knowing a picture is designed to last

Then

A drenching mind-storm
A dark night
A flash
Beckoning moments
Drawing downward
Rendering Ignored instincts prophetic
Soaked clothes of the deep
Like bobbing corks orphaned from desperation
Now in swaddling survival gear

Today…

Recall reminds us how little we knew
Inviting the man patiently waiting
As a shadowed silhouette just yesterday
Would become the reality of today

A man now recognized
As something from nowhere
Lurking as the observer-coniver
A back row sneak
A collective shadow
Smirking at his minions beholden to fantasy

We were once indomitable
We were of admirable history wishing to continue

 We could walk on water
Or float like the photograph now drifting by

As we try to hold our heads above water

As the fantasy continues to slowly sink

It is remarkable that good people still seem unable to see through his transparent behavior. Thank goodness our country can survive a bad leader. I can see the Congress beginning to stand up against some of the idiocy that he proclaims as dictator. And I can see even the Supreme Court, carefully cultivated by Republican action over the years to be extremely conservative, not following his edicts to disassemble the Constitution, its amendments, and progressive law overcoming long inequities.

Just today in an interview in London, Trump now proclaims that there, "Is something in this climate change thing and global warming…" Always slimyly changing his tune, "I never said that Obama wasn't born in this country," when it benefits him to lie about the facts. The master manipulator, negotiator and rip off artist. Amen.

People go by, they bicker and shout words that hate.

They listen to the news and then form opinions about one's fate.

But this person was never provided a real trial.

"Your guilty until we prove you guilty" is the call from the crowd.

But one day all will "Wake up" because we will see.

That the person they we trying to persecute is really no better or worse than you or me.

Amen

To go by your picture and the "today" paragraphs, you are most certainly correct in your assumption of our country of late, hopefully we don't make the next time the same mistake...-e-
