Perhaps no other group of instruments has the healing power of strings. (Image by pinterest)

Magical Soundscapes

Such a landscape of sound,
stringed instruments provide.

A simple pluck or slide of the bow
sends wavelengths traversing across
one’s sensitive needs.

How rewarding…

These sounds enveloping our synaptic mind,
giving purchase to our love,
hate,
innocence,
and guilt.

Finger-tone guides,
of the other hand,
press down on frets,
signaling variances of discovery.

Embracing the shaped neck,
the vibrations of strings may take one
to a garden of rose and peat moss
asking the closed eyes of the listener
to breathe in the scent of softness,
the fragrance of peace and love.

If only more would listen,
they may hear the liberation possible
as catgut and wood coalesce,
rendering hearts of the willing…
to open.

The violin can be made to cry, laugh, fall in love, show anger.................I love Gypsy violin music! Fiddle players give you happy feet! My father's dream was for me to play the violin. I studied piano.............but it looks kinda like a harp in my piano! I need to hear the Hungarian Rhapsody!

Love ya!

Why I give my partner violin music as she cooks our evening meal. Yes, there is magic in the way that those strings drawn tight can create a melody. I often listen to the lead in for my favorite rock songs like Hotel California, only to find that the best music is the lead in guitar already informing me of what is to come. Why Am I Guitar Gently Weeps by George Harrison is an all-time favorite.

And then, the way a violin string can reach a pitch almost unheard of that touches one's soul with magic.

I vividly remember a faculty member from Fairmont State University in West Virginia, proudly bringing out a fiddle that he traded from a man upon a mountaintop. Inside I could read the word Stradivarius. The man was no violin player, but as he pulled a few licks on those strings, the sound that came out of that fiddle reached into my very soul! I've never heard a sound like the since.

The soundscapes are truly magical, especially for this person who has no talent for playing any kind of musical instrument.

Your poem is very soothing for the soul.
I love music and classical is solid gold.
The sounds of a viola or a violin in hand.
It's all so elegant and all so grand.

Well done!

I recall hearing about the little boy from Tennessee who was asked
if he knew the difference between a violin and a fiddle. He thought for a moment and then replied: "Ah'm purty sure a violin has 'striiings,' but a fiddle has 'straaangs' " He wan't nearly as eloquent as you, but he could be a poet in the making.
