Infinite Ether

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

As science has taught us, there is no ceasing of existence, only the form it will take next. How many of us seek to know the complexities of cosmic existence in order to not fear the next chapter? (Image by Paula Belle Flores)

Infinite Ether

Weathering currents
from birth’s ebb
to the growing-old tide.

From embryo on,
purging upon the rocks of reality
becomes an uninvited necessity.

Out of the womb,
we're held high,
slapped,
smiled at,
smothered with whispers assuring us,
we’re alive.

Oh, how generously we’re…

Cuddled,
pampered,
protected,
educated,
extricated from the family,
exonerated of past mistakes,
and finally cast to the winds.

Then…

And only then,
the real weathering
of currents begin.

How challenging,
this thrust into foreign waters,
the inevitable coming of age,
at many an age, truth be told,
the "Holy Hell" of awakening,
under mind’s water,
gasping for air,
not knowing wisdom waits in silent repose,
Nature’s catharsis of our superficial struggle.

To be denied such resolve,
is to not know of infinite ether,
the conviction that another kind of existence
will begin soon,

as the energy of our matter knows no boundary,

save that of supernatural ignis fatuus.

It’s just a matter of Earth’s count-down.

Well put. Science has determined the ingredients of our body, but not unlocked what makes us sentiment beings with the ability to manipulate all about us and even think about the infinity of the universe and our changing view of it.

If I've learned anything in my short life, I learned that this earth, our home, and us will be gone soon from the myriad of discovered and as yet, undiscovered, ways our planet and us will perish in the near distant future. But as your poem points out, our chemical makeup will just be rearranged and form the part of other chemical formations, some of them could be human or even superhuman. That is yet to be determined…
