Our sentimental past

Our repetitious future

Bound together

By hope and fear

Continues as dangerous hostage

As captors prepare their next demand

Though some might shudder

Such ransom seems paltry

To Power’s hubristic blindness

Straining to reach

A wintery summit patiently waiting

Forever luring the determined

Upon these storm-scarred peaks

The shelter hut grins

As crystalized mistakes

Remain one’s host

Within its four walls

Stocked with wood

But not kindling

Packaged nourishment

But past expiration dates

A wedged open door

Enjoins icy gusts

Dancing their last-note refrain

To Hope’s frozen calliope dream

Once a carousel’s innocence

Now a whirlwind of fright

Many try

But hypothermic dreams take over

Delivering happy endings

Knowing not

Delusions forever satisfy

Evil’s model of successful failure

Those rules of romantic notion

Denouncing Truth as bogus

Such for many

Antiquity's legacy

This frozen journey

Today’s repeat of yesterday

This perpetual Phoenix

Ice-covered in its ashen nest of flaming contradictions

Affronts Reality

Like some whirling dervish

Of gluttonous Nature

One’s anomalous Leviathan

Aberrational cotton candy

Frozen on one’s tongue of childish deceit

But

Climb

Grab

Crawl

Go they

We

Us

Moral impotence bowing to

Control’s infantile persistence

Evil’s innocent drippings

Enveloping misguided yearnings

Into but another layer

Tomorrow’s fossilized history

As

The kind that never disappear.
