Thankstaking.
Weighing in at a
Portly indulgence of
Gross lies and veiled slight-of-hand judgments,
With the advantage reach of too many terms at the head of the table,
Forever obliging friends and family to skirt the real nourishment
And retire to the perimeter seats of obfuscated survival scraps.


In the right corner…
Thanksgiving.
Tipping the scales of history lost,
With a mere modicum of weighted appreciation,
Trying as it might to stare down its worthy opponent.
It nevertheless stands tall for the feast of the fittest,
Knowing that only with tempered rumination of words and avoidance of gristled ear
Can it win back the hearts of the diet-wary gluttons
And the indecisive ringside hopefuls surging at the doors.


The winner of this dichotomy of give and take
Will meet the all-time wonder of the iconic nemeses…
Retail’s Jolly Red Giant of consumerism.
Arriving within a month by the mere twinkling of an eye,
With yet even more to take than to give.
