Truth's Eye of the Beholder

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

With truth seemingly caught in a tempest of misinformation duplicity, the time for integrity’s power of mind to manifest before it too will rapidly become endangered beyond repair. “We don't see things as they are; we see them as we are.” Timothy Leary coined the term “Reality Tunnel,” which Wilson helped popularize. The basic concept is that truth is in the eye of the beholder. Mar 17, 2017

Truth’s Eye of the Beholder

How twisted and complicated our efforts to survive with honesty.
Like the seaweed of a lonely shore, we endure this constant return,
the receding tide and lapping desperation of our confused mind state.

Hollowed out in the once healthy marrow of our integrity,
the tunnels of our synaptic ventures,

forever maneuvers its terrain with hooks and twists,

bringing us ever closer to the languid exhaustion of effort,

but always sensing we are navigating truthfully.

Today for many…

To ignore the pain of lying,
the unknown of deceitful consequences,
flailing psyches often couch their expressions with
smiles of duplicity,
body language of control,
and the veiled eyes of innocence.

Is it any wonder that our mendacious behavior,
creating the waste and pollution we gorge on,
imbibing the very disease of both mind and body,
finally brings us to a premature end?

For how can our deteriorating essence ever recover
without acknowledging the skein we often unwittingly
allow to fray and render our rectitude defenseless?

For those that couch truth in their mind's eye, distorted by belief, all seems well. But as you describe, the strain of that upholding tends to bring us to, "a premature end." As someone with some knowledge of the empirical scientific process, I would say that the true, is immutable and not subject to the belief. It is the unmitigated truth. The sooner we cast off belief in favor of the truth the better off we all will be.

It's a sad state of affairs we've created for ourselves as stay in our cocoons. It used to be that lies had to be covered up, but not anymore. We get lied to so much, we don't know what the truth is from day to day.

'Mendacious' indeed sums up the majority of our present government. And any kind of righteousness (in our leadership) as a consequence of being honorable and honest has become almost nonexistent. An excellent image, and a message that sees what many seem blinded to. Well done Odinsan. Peace... r

Clearly, truth as we know it has fallen victim to "our mendacious behavior, creating the waste and pollution we gorge on." Tough, stark and yes truthful words from the poet that we should listen to.

Odin, I wish I could write like you; such intelligence I read in all of your posts, and I do read them all, though rarely do I comment as I don't think I have enough smarts to for the most part understand what you write...write on intellectual bard/poet...-e-
