Sugar of Mind

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

As another year of commercial ballpeen hammerism subjects us with more of the “same ol’” Academy Awards, one might better spend the time contemplating: “It requires wisdom to understand wisdom: the music is nothing if the audience is deaf - Walter Lippmann. If the dissing of Terrance Malick’s “A Hidden life” is any measure of how far removed the art of cinema awards have become, then, it’s time for many of us to diss the obvious and watch a good documentary… like a David Attenborough gem. Or, better still, watch Malick’s latest insight into the elusive principal of integrity and weep with the rest of us. Yes, the film is long, but so is the journey of unrequited integrity. Sugar of Mind

Acumen's voice smolders quietly
when deafened ears respond only
to discords of witlessness.

Wisdom's heat invites comfort,
its embers remain alive,
its wake of constant resolve
lifts vigils of swirling persuasion,
choking away illiteracy,
banishing cross or sickle waved ominously.

Ever present…

Creation's insight
remaining airborne in a void for those
with causeless breath being held,
affecting not its surroundings,
forever stale ether locked,
roiling chasms of fear
exuding odiferous spoilage,
rotting,
polluting,
repelling.

Such misery of judgement holds steady
among repeated indulgences of flesh,
the masses' quintessential reptilian skin
long overdue for shedding.

But cling it must,
this resistance to reflection and growth,
feeling safe in unknowing
the rewards of philological pondering.

Sign and verba,l
touch and smell,
eye and ear,
an all-sensitive motion
making ready transference from literal
to ethereal possession.

For some…

A chosen distance is preferred,
a huddled observation from
deep in the abyss of ignorance,
self-importance perishing alone
amidst a cacophony of unresolved noise
while wisdom's whisper
continues to thread hunger's needle

through the sugar of mind.

Thank you, Mr. Malick.

Challenging our sense of artistic integrity

may always be necessary, especially

on Academy Award night.

The movie A Hidden Life came over here about a month ago, but I wasn't able to see it. Sorry now that I didn't. Hope to see it at some future time.
