Tail Chase

 

Oh, how the contest fluctuates

Be one male or female

 

The mornings…

 

Subway mayhem

Bus stop running

Elevator crunching

Cubicle exhaustion

 

Noon…

 

Rush for the Sabrett wiener cart on 53rd

Extra mustard

Hold the onions

Oh hell

Onions too

And some sauerkraut

 

Quitting time…

 

Assailing “Happy Hour” into dinner hour

Chasing shots with Pilsner

Stalking one’s orientation

Where “available” is puckered on their lips

 

Sleep time…

 

Undress with pride

Climb into bed with confidence

Watch some nature documentaries and fantasize

As you toss about beneath down comforter

Conjuring up strategies to get through the next day

 

After all…

 

Tomorrow is just another challenge

Chasing one’s tail

It could be the rat race or stuck in traffic commuting from your distant suburb hideaway, but in this case, you have nailed climbing the ladder to success in Manhattan beautifully. It isn't all Breakfast at Tiffany's, is it? With the combination of mystery fast food and a heavy dose of daily alcohol, it's hard to imagine how anyone survived to reach the glass penthouse in the sky.

Kind of a change of pace in this humorous poem. I remember recently on Facebook a reader asked me to write some funny poems because my poems were too serious. Perhaps I should try it and stop chasing my own tail.
