Honed Honesty

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

The daily headlines continue to proffer what started out as a bogus “draining of the swamp” into an increasingly broader challenge... widespread deception and corruption flooding the swamp. (Image by pinterest)

Poem Artwork

Honed Honesty

Presents freely the manufactured gilded edge
of manipulated persuasion
opposite the hand-honed
sharpness of truth.

Honesty asks…

Does the brook feign the river
thinking the ocean blind?

Does a sparrow imitate the hawk's dive
for celebrated death?

Does an orphan pick the pocket of the rich
envisioning wealth?

Honesty thinks not.

For truth is truth,
surrounding forces of false pride,
making clear agony's face of contorted lines,
even as deceit's buried conscience
fosters further layers of deception.

Honesty knows betrayal.

Self-loathing flaunts disguises
made either in one man's fairy-tale heaven
or another man's angelic hell.

Honesty sees your contempt…

Knows the studied rehearsed smile
covering molten fueled hate
cleverly shadowed by your laughter.

Honesty knows not duplicity…

That obsessive quest for adulation
blatantly hiding beneath your sneer,
where the arsenal of subterfuge
festers amongst ambition's price.

But fear not your suffering of lies…

Even as contaminants' false essence radiates
like nuclear waste biding its time,
ebbing its tide toward shores of honesty's harvest.

For to your surprise…

You'll realize deceit eventually finds defeat gentle
when discovered beside compassion's scabbard,
the hand-honed
edge of truth.

I'm not sure the truth is even recognizable anymore. there is so much disinformation, spin, and outright lies being said, it's hard to know what to believe. One thing I am sure of though is that this current administration is full of corruption and deception being dished out by a master con man.

"edge of truth" indeed. Seems everything human is devolving Odinsan: falling headlong into a dark pit of corruption, lies, and deception. It's stunning what's happening now in this country, and on this planet. The social engineering that's going on, I believe, is going to usher in the New World Order, and a world ruler. As far as I'm concerned, that debate stage was an embarrassment. Billionaires, homosexuals, leftist socialists, and all hating each other seemingly more than they do Trump. It was distressing watching Sanders and Bloomberg throw mudballs at each other. Despite it all though... the Truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. Enjoyed your thoughts. Hope all is well. r

I think we have to reconcile ourselves that we are living in a world of constant deception with all the devices and instruments now available to perpetuate such deception. "The hand-honed edge of truth" needs no such devices but it what it is and stands in its own defense. Well expressed.
