Roadside Flower That Could

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

While coping with the frustration of the virus, a poet shared an observation with me today. Thus, an extension of what might have transpired following her acknowledgement. Hopefully, she will tell us soon her own impression in poetry. This is but my effort to not forget. (Image by flickr)

Poem Artwork

Roadside Flower That Could

A red light.

How daunting the image,

Amidst the gaseous plumes.

Steadfast position

Rests this red poppy orphan

Coveted by dandelion and vagabond bee alike

Surrounding its presence like sentinels of Nature’s kingdom.

What holds this manifest of life so stalwart?

Might it be accepting what is as…

What is?

So much to learn from the lessor,

Yet often stronger adventurers of Nature.

Such are the seedlings of warrior hearts,

Amidst gentle minds of apathy

The visceral voices of survival

A bee and poppy chorusing together as…

Red light turns green.

Fast lane mentality jettisons forward.

A new rush of polluted air

Tries desperately to banish

The poppy and bee nectar partnership resolve.

Grinning in  their joint resolve,

A duality of purpose vibrates…

“That your best shot, MoFo?”

The dual scorge of pesticides and herbicides, the corporate answers to pesky little survivors who manage to take over because of their natural resilience in many environments. Our favored food crops laced with sugar and starch seem threatened by these little pests and their perseverance. Sadly so.

The sooner we get rid of misguided "productivity" and convenience for our glut of excess, the better. The birds and the bees will come back to make love once again.
