Queens and Pawns

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

Like the game of chess, be we of pawn or queen identity, we are all now living in a time where survival challenges the breathing game of choice. (Image by pinterest)

Poem Artwork

Queens and Pawns

How lonely the battlefield
from birth to death
defenses circumventing sword's thrust
ending breath's campaign
a naked warrior.

Hopscotching for survival
across checkered landscapes
peril's gravity tugs and pulls
mind navigates surprise attacks
hidden landmines
predator strategies.

Pause…

Connect around corners
avoid distractions
think ahead
realize jeweled crowns of tenacity
seek not the I
but instead the To Be.

Then…

Rest.

Patience knows us well.

Life’s game understands strategy.

Realize jeweled crowns of tenacity seek not the I, but instead the to be. Classic lines, period.

For those lucky enough to have patience, plan ahead, and are not deterred by whatever life throws at them, peace and rest will greet them near the end of their lives. They do not have to wait until it is inscribed on their tombstones, to "rest in peace."

"Patience knows us well", I like that line, even if we don't know patience very well.

"Life's game understands strategy." The question is: Do we understand? Food for thought.
